Supplying to Government?

 

The Indigenous Opportunities Policy (IOP) requires major suppliers to the Australian Government to demonstrate their commitment to Indigenous employment including the use of Indigenous business suppliers.

 

It applies to Australian Government procurement processes worth more than $5 million (or $6 million for construction) that involves activity in regions with a significant Indigenous population. Under the Indigenous Opportunities Policy, regions with significant Indigenous Australian populations are Indigenous regions or areas in which the proportion of Indigenous Australian people in the region is equal to or higher than the national average as reported in the most recent census data (3 per cent in the 2011 Census).

 

Suppliers tendering for projects above the monetary threshold will be required to have an approved Indigenous Training, Employment and Supplier Plan (IOP Plan) approved by the IOP Administrator, Office of Indigenous Affairs.
